Can Your Dog Get Swine Flu?

From Seven

The media has gone wild with stories of swine flu. Though it is something we should all be very aware of, as the media has a tendency to do, it has made people feel a lot of fear. Panic has even gone to dog owners and concern that dogs can get the H1N1 influenza infection.

If you are worried your dog can become infected, here is one you can let go. At this time there is no incidence of H1N1 or Swine flu infecting any dogs.

A statement yesterday by the The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals released says the virus, which seems to have originated in Mexico, "appears to present a low risk of infecting cats and dogs." The American Veterinary Medical Association also is saying "there is no evidence that pets are susceptible to this new strain of influenza."

Maintain the same precautions as are recommended, one being wash your hands and keep hygiene at the forefront. A healthy lifestyle of diet, exercise, and positive attitude goes a long way in steering clear of ending up with the flu.

A healthy diet for your dog and exercise which includes a walk everyday is simply good insurance that health and happiness is a attainable by any person and any dog with an owner willing to provide those simple things.
